Community Social Service Programs
The Soup Kitchen is on track to serve 35,000 meals with 300 volunteers who will work more than 15,000 hours. Members from fourteen Christian Churches and one Jewish community participate in this ministry. The Soup Kitchen is located in the former St. Bartholomew School on 8th St between Lincoln and Jackson in Waukegan.
The Food Pantry serves 9,000 families, distributes approximately 210,000 pounds of food, provides clothes in the Clothing Closet and refurbishes bikes for adults to get to work. The program provides Thanksgiving meals and a Christmas Gift Program. The staff encourages clients to become more self-sufficient by providing needs assessments and referrals to other agencies. The Food Pantry is located in the former St. Bartholomew Church on 8th St. between Lincoln and Jackson in Waukegan, next to the Soup Kitchen.
The Father Gary Graf Center conducts adult classes in English, pre-GED, Computer Skills, Citizenship and Spanish Literacy. Our staff is on track to assist clients with public benefits and make social service referrals for over 4,000 individuals.
